Placements 2007 – Reaching
for the sky!
Continuing the northward trend placements
in 2007 achieved a handsome set of firsts. Of a batch
of 72 students, 6 accepted lateral placement with
the remaining 66 getting placed on ‘Day Zero’
of the Placement Week.
The average salary of the batch notched
a new high of Rs. 7.5 lakh p.a., up almost 40% over
the previous year. The highest pay offered was Rs.
10.2 lakh p.a. 120 offers were made by over 50 leading
companies representing 17 industry sectors. 41 profiles
offered more than Rs. 6 Lakh p.a.

The renewed interest in communication
and marketing skills, MICA and MICAns came through
strongly when companies from diverse sectors like
insurance, energy and automobiles participated in
the placement process. For the first time achieved
the golden standard of crossing the Rs. 1 million
mark in pay packages. It was offered for a domestic
placement by Hindustan Times.
The lateral placement process got
institutionalized for the first time this year. KPIT
Cummins, Hewlett Packard, Covansys, Ugam and Evaluserve
participated in the process this year.
Batch Profiles:


The sectoral break-up of placements shows that Brand
Management is the new buzzword for both, industry
and students. Sales and Marketing profile was offered
across service-oriented as well as FMCG companies.
MICA remained the preferred recruiting ground for
Market Research companies. The profiles offered in
Media Management this year were Media planning and
Buying, Media Auditing and Media Consulting. Advertising
companies matched the offers from other sectors, offering
Rs. 6 lakh p.a and above.

Sectorwise Placements
The sectoral break-up of the recruiting companies
shows a healthy mix of sectors ranging from FMCG,
IT, automobiles, energy, media and advertising agencies
among others.

The pay packages offered this year have been substantially
