Seminars Organised


Has organised the Second International Seminar on Postmodernism at the MICA campus at Ahmedabad between March 5th and 7th, 2005. Delegates and presenters came from the US, Ireland, Pakistan, Japan, Iran, Sweden and Iran.

Has delivered the plenary address on ‘Race and Advertising’ at the International conference on Marketing and Society held at the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Kozhikode between April 8-10, 2007.

Has served as faculty member at the training programme in Culture Studies at Leo Burnett advertising agency, Mumbai, September, 2006.

Has served as visiting faculty at the Xavier Institute of Communications (XIC), Mumbai and delivered 70 hours of lectures in the area of Culture and Media Studies, July-August, 2006.

Has delivered a lecture titled “Politics of the Image” at the Film Appreciation Course (FA) organised by the National Film Archive of India (NFAI), Pune on 22nd May, 2006.

Has delivered a series of lectures at the Television Research Methods Course at the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune on 13th April and 14th April, 2006.

Has delivered a lecture on Communication Curriculum at the AJK Mass Communication Research Centre Workshop on Research and Evaluation Syllabus held at Jamia Millia Islamia University between 9th and 10th March, 2006, New Delhi.


Has delivered a lecture titled ‘Political Economy of Globalisation’ at the National seminar titled ‘Indian Crafts: Future in a Globalising World’ at the National Institute of Design (NID), Ahmedabad on 26th November, 2005.

Has delivered a lecture on teaching methodologies at the ‘Marketing Academicians’ Programme at the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Kozhikode between June 30th to 2nd July, 2005.

Has delivered a lecture on Minorities and Human Rights at the UGC National Seminar on “Democracy, Human Rights and Minorities: An Interface” between March 18-19, 2005 at Milagres College, Kallianpur, Udupi, Karnataka.

Has delivered a lecture on trends in contemporary media at the Strategic Media Management and Planning (SMMP) professional executive programme organised by MICA at Ahmedabad on February 18, 2005.

Has addressed the AIMA-MICA Integrated Marketing seminar on ‘Turbulent markets’ in Mumbai, January 14-15, 2005.

Has served as a faculty member at the Second Annual Winter Course on Racism, Immigration, Xenophobia and Forced migration conducted by the Calcutta Research Group (CRG) and sponsored by the UNHCR, New Delhi and the Brookings Institution, Washington between December 10-15, 2004. Served as a Resource person for the media module.

Has delivered a series of lectures on media studies at the Zee Television Executive development programme on 21-22 November, 2004 and 8-9 January, 2005.

Has delivered a lecture on “Media and Terrorism” at the Symbiosis Institute of Communication Seminar (Footprints), held at Ahmedabad on November 10th, 2004.

Has delivered a lecture on Imperialism, globalisation and the media at the MICA seminar on “Globalising Media” on 2nd November, 2004 at the India International Centre, New Delhi.

Has delivered a lecture on “Economic Imperatives for Security” at the 44th National Defence College (NDC) Course on 29th October, 2004 at New Delhi.

Served as a resource person in the South Asian Regional Conference on the “Role of Civil Society in the prevention of Armed Conflict in South Asia organized by RCSS, Colombo with UNDP at Kathmandu, Nepal between September 11-13, 2004.

Served as Workshop resource person for Diksha, an organisation working for children of Sex Workers in Calcutta between July 7th to 13th, 2004.

Has attended the board meeting of the South Asia Federation of Human Rights on 1st May 2004 at Kathmandu, Nepal.

Has delivered a series of lectures on Culture Studies at the Symbiosis Institute of Mass Communication (SIMC), Pune between February 2nd to 7th, 2004 and February 14-19, 2005. Also served as external evaluator for Masters’ degree thesis evaluation during the same period; Has also delivered lectures at SIMC in February 2006.

Has delivered a series of lectures in media studies; the question of Human rights coverage and the question of Art at the South Asia Workshop on Human Rights organised by SAFHR, Kathmandu, Nepal on July 26-August 4, 2003.

Has delivered a lecture as visiting faculty on “Caste, Class and Gender” at the Kathmandu School of Law, Bhaktapur, Nepal (August 2003).

Advisory Board member of the Indian Media Studies Journal published from Department of Mass Communication, VBS. Purvanchal University, Jaunpur, UP.

Has served as visiting faculty from 2003 onwards at the National Institute of Design (NID), Ahmedabad, India. Has taken the following courses at NID: Developmental Communication, Socio-political aspects of cinema and Communication theory (January 2003/August 2003, November 2003, July 2004, February 2005, April 2005, August 2005, January 2006 and September, 2006).

Has also delivered a lecture on Islamic Culture at the Centre for Environmental Planning and Technology (CEPT), Ahmedabad, India (September 2003).

Has served on the consultative board meeting of SAFHR at New Delhi on April 8th, 2003.

Attended a three-day National Workshop with theme Fascism and Film conducted by the Resource Centre for Media Education and Research, Pune, Dec 9-11, 2000.

Invited to present a series of lectures on Third World Cinema at the Department of Communication, University of Kerala, 10th to 14th December 2001.
