Student Life
Life @ MICA
What drives MICAns besides communications
management? ...Baddy! No wait…its tt! (that’s
badminton and table tennis for the uninitiated) Well
the house remains divided. They are the passions that
engulf and unite one and all. One can say that we
lead a bit of double life at MICA. When Sankalp,
our theatre group gets together, the whole campus
reverberates with the vocal outpourings of aspiring
actors. And not to forget the entire crew of music
directors, costume designers, makeup artists, and
of course the marketing and PR fraternity. And we
don’t just stop at theatre; the continuum does
shift towards the broader core of talent and culture.
At MICA, one is given every opportunity
to showcase talent. Over the years MICAns have been
able to evolve their own genre of music. A Pavarotti
bass, a nasal Himesh, a soulful Atif Aslam, and Knopfler’s
guitar – we have them all. And the outpourings
come in two forms – Micavaani, the
students managed community radio and the music band
Unlike No Others. Can we forget the film buffs? Two
kinds. There are those who rave about Indian accidents
from Mithun, Govinda and Haashmi to the jholawalas
who swear by Fellini and Bertolucci. Trinetra,
the film club, offers regular entertainment on large
screens with the popcorn et al. The web freaks chew
up all the links on all search engines exploring everything
from Greek mythology to crickinfo to Indiastat. “Medium
is the message”-McLuhan revisited?
During the annual fest MICANVAS,
the entire campus comes alive. Its life in the fast
lane for three days and three nights as the best brains
in the country compete at various events. To us MICA
is beyond memory – its our lifeline. Those long
walks down the Shela village road negotiating herds
of cattle, tearing Kotler apart, analyzing ads, dancing
in the rain at the first burst of monsoon, late night
tea and maggi at chhota, the student canteen,
pouring over brand management books and articles in
library, overnight presentations…The walls have
ears they say – in MICA they have life.
